Christmas Tree and Staircase Reveal

If you follow me on Instagram, you have likely seen the large Christmas tree that I promptly set-up upon its arrival a few weeks ago. I’ve been dreaming of a big Christmas tree for years, and even put some thought into where it would go in our new home during the planning phase. I made sure to have an outlet connected to a light switch so that we could easily turn it on and off. Kevin stood on the ottoman with his arms up in order to give me an idea of where the height would hit, and I really feel like we nailed the size although Kevin might think it is a little big. I kept the color scheme of the tree similar to our overall color palette in the kitchen/great room and added some large lights in for a bit more shine. (the tree is pre-lit, but you really can’t have too many Christmas lights) I am dreaming of the memories we will make around this tree in the coming weeks, and am so looking forward to our first Christmas in our home.

I also wanted to share our staircase. The stairs were the last thing to be finished and even still they aren’t completely done. We will be adding a carpet runner mainly for practicality purposes. I don’t want one of the boys falling down them, and black is hard to keep clean so the runner will help with both of those things, but I really love the way the black staircase came together. With our big window being such a focal point, it is nice to have the contrasty stairs and front door opposite of it. I just think it works really well visually, and I love the moodiness of the black. I painted all the stair parts except for the metal rails which was the last big paint project I had to tackle this fall, but it was so worth it! My front entrance stays relatively tidy since it doesn’t get used often. (we always come in the mudroom entrance and leave our coats, boots, bags, etc.). Having the front area clutter free is a big perk of having a mudroom and was something I thought about well in advance. Black stairs aren’t for everyone, but this was a risk I am happy we took!!
