Little Cowboy Bedroom

This is Kaden’s first bedroom. As a baby he was in a crib in our room at our first home. (It worked so we never felt the need to move him in with one of his brothers.) When we moved into the old farmhouse, the stairs were so steep that I didn’t feel comfortable having him up there with his brothers so he was in a toddler bed in our room. (There were really only two bedrooms so we were all crammed)

Giving Kaden a space that feels like him is important to me. I wanted this corner to feel like a little boy’s collection.  The little boy who gives his mama dandelion bouquets and always has rocks in his pocket. The boy who knows his way around the local antique store, and likes to treasure hunt after school.  A little cowboy who has been having bad dreams and believes in the magic of a dream catcher.  This is what home means to me and hopefully he will always feel safe and loved within these walls.

When styling this shelf, I started with what I had. First, I already had the shelf. It was in two of our kitchens prior to here, and I thought it would be perfect for Kaden’s room. I wanted to hang his cowboy hat on the wall, and have his stick horses in the corner as well. I had the frames and bought the cowboy print off of Etsy. The horse, cowbell, brown cup and little boot were all from an antique mall and I bought the dream catcher locally. The plant was on clearance from Walmart. (now is great time to buy plants as they stock up right after the holidays and tend to mark them down at the end of January) We have an abundance of shed horns so that was easy to add. Overall this was an inexpensive upgrade to this little corner. My sweet little Kaden told me the morning after showing him the dream catcher and explaining how it worked that, “Mom, the dream catcher really is magical. It caught all my bad dreams last night!” That alone makes it all worth it even if he does still crawl into my bed in the middle of the night sometimes.
